Ozomatli

Ozomatli’s music blends Latin, hip-hop, rock, and reggae, creating a unique sound that amplifies diverse voices and celebrates cultural unity. The goal of this project wasn’t just to create visually compelling content but to ensure that each video resonated with their message. Each Instagram reel we crafted aimed to encapsulate Ozomatli’s core values: unity, resilience, and the transformative power of music.

When I first got the call to film Instagram content for Ozomatli, I recognized the unique opportunity to collaborate with a Grammy-winning band. Ozomatli has not only made significant contributions to music but also stands as a prominent voice for cultural activism and social justice. Equipped with my Red Monstro VV 8K camera and Rode Wireless Pro lavalier mics, I documented the band’s journey—from backstage moments at the iconic Greek Theatre to intimate conversations on their political and cultural themes.

this project was a unique opportunity to contribute to Ozomatli’s broader narrative, one that champions justice, diversity, and the power of art. Each reel serves as a small yet meaningful part of their legacy, amplifying their message and connecting with audiences in new ways.

Filming on the Red Monstro VV 8K allowed for capturing vibrant details—from the high-energy performances to quieter, candid backstage moments. The dynamic range of the camera enhanced the visual storytelling, while the Rode Wireless Pro lavalier mics ensured pristine audio quality. This combination was essential for recording both the band’s music and their spoken reflections, whether in controlled environments or amid lively crowds.

A significant aspect of the project was aligning the content with Ozomatli’s cultural and political identity. Their Instagram reels went beyond showcasing music to address broader societal issues. Ozomatli’s music celebrates cultural diversity, a recurring theme in many reels. One notable piece included a montage of fans dancing at various concerts, paired with interviews where attendees shared personal stories about the band’s impact.
